The New Inn dates from the seventeenth century and was originally a coaching stage post where the Ives family ran a coach service to London. The Inn's extensive stable yard is now part of St Mary's Court next door.
In the nineteenth century, a corridor connected the Inn to the Hall of Variety, or assembly rooms, which was Ealing's venue for public entertainment until the Lyric hall was built on the Uxbridge Road in 1887.
The pub was rebuilt in 1897 and in the 1980's, the New Inn Theatre was active in the first floor room until the curtain was brought down for the last time in 1985.
